USAID Dreams Like Program

YWCA Rwanda, in partnership with Global Communities and with funding from USAID, is implementing the USAID Twiyubake DREAMS-Like program in Kicukiro District. The program is designed to support the development of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), helping them become Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe individuals capable of reaching their full potential.

The program promotes a safe transition to adulthood for girls aged 10 to 24 by addressing various age-specific needs. For girls aged 10–14, the program focuses on HIV/AIDS risk avoidance. For those aged 15–19, it combines risk avoidance and risk reduction strategies, while for the 20–24 age group, it emphasizes risk reduction. Additionally, the program targets the prevention of unplanned pregnancies among young women and girls—including teen mothers, both in and out of school, and female sex workers.

Key Achievements

  • 5,026 adolescent girls and young women were enrolled in safe spaces, where they received sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) education and HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) services.
  • 234 AGYW participants were awarded scholarships to pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
  • The Family is Matters Program (FMP) was successfully implemented, with 790 parents completing the full training module.
